About this role
About OpenTrain OpenTrain is the centralized, open platform where AI training and data-labeling freelancers find work, consolidate opportunities across platforms, and build a unified AI training portfolio they control. We make specialized AI training work easier to track, apply for, and grow into a durable freelance career.
About this role OpenTrain is recruiting a Physics AI Training Specialist to help improve large language models in specialized physics domains. You will create domain-specific prompts, evaluate model responses, and use your subject-matter expertise to assess whether explanations accurately address important physics concepts. The work is remote and primarily asynchronous, with flexible participation of approximately 10 to 20 hours per week and compensation of up to $50 per hour.
What you will do
- Develop prompts that explore physics concepts, topics, and subdomains.
- Review large language model responses for conceptual accuracy and quality.
- Research topics of interest with assistance from AI.
- Explain and assess physics reasoning in ways that distinguish expert understanding from model-generated errors.
- Work independently in an asynchronous environment while contributing to AI research projects as assignments become available.
Required skills
- Master's degree in physics.
- Strong ability to understand and explain key physics concepts.
- Judgment to determine whether an AI response is accurate, relevant, and sufficiently reasoned.
- Ability to conduct research and develop clear, domain-specific prompts.
- Comfort working primarily asynchronously and independently.
Helpful background Experience as a doctoral student, doctoral candidate, or candidate, together with valid U.S. work or training authorization, is relevant to this opportunity. Eligible authorization examples include F-1 or OPT, J-1, and H-1B status, subject to applicable program or visa requirements. Candidates requiring a new I-983 for STEM OPT are not currently accommodated, while already approved I-983 arrangements and pre-graduation OPT, CPT, J-1, and H-1B participation are identified as unaffected.
About the opportunity The program operates throughout the year, while project availability varies by domain. This role offers flexible, part-time participation for physics specialists who want to apply their expertise to prompt development and model-response evaluation.
Why work with OpenTrain OpenTrain gives freelancers one place to manage AI training opportunities instead of rebuilding proof of work on every platform. A stronger OpenTrain profile helps you show credible experience, discover roles that match your skills, and turn AI training and data-labeling work into a long-term portfolio.
