The work
You will create realistic hardware engineering problems, solve them, and review whether the problems and solutions are technically sound. Your work should show clear reasoning, practical constraints, quantitative analysis, and results that another person can reproduce and verify.
- Create self-contained hardware engineering challenges based on realistic industry or research scenarios.
- Develop reference solutions using calculations, simulations, scripts, experimental reasoning, or other suitable methods.
- Evaluate problems and solutions for technical accuracy, reproducibility, and independent verification.
- Connect first-principles reasoning with product, system, testing, validation, reliability, and failure-analysis constraints.
- Use tools such as Python, MATLAB, Simulink, SPICE, Julia, C/C++, and test automation platforms when they help validate results.
What it pays and takes
This is a fully remote contractor opportunity with flexible scheduling, including weekends if desired. The structured experience level is entry level, while the role requires the technical background and evidence of ownership described below.
- Pay: $60 to $120 per hour equivalent, paid per task that meets the project specifications.
- Time: Approximately 15 hours per week and less than 20 hours per week.
- Location: Remote and open to candidates in AE, AR, AT, BD, BE, BH, BR, CA, CH, CL, CO, DE, DK, DZ, EG, ES, FR, GB, GH, GR, ID, IN, IT, JO, JP, KE, KG, KW, KZ, LB, LK, MA, MX, MY, NG, NL, OM, PE, PH, PK, PS, PT, QA, SA, SG, TH, TN, TW, US, UZ, VN, and ZA.
- Language: Professional fluency in English.
- Experience: Significant professional or research experience in hardware engineering, product development, systems integration, testing, validation, reliability, or failure analysis.
- Education: A bachelor's, master's, or PhD degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, aerospace engineering, systems engineering, applied physics, or a closely related field is preferred.
- Evidence of ownership: A product or subsystem taken to production, a model validated against physical testing, a test system you developed, or a difficult failure you diagnosed.
- Required ability to work with coding agents and produce technically clear, quantitatively reasoned, independently verifiable work.
- Helpful experience includes Python, MATLAB, Simulink, SPICE, Julia, C/C++, simulation, experimental reasoning, and test automation.
