The Work
You will evaluate AI-generated chemical engineering content and improve prompts, responses, explanations, and step-by-step solutions. Your reviews will focus on technical accuracy, logical soundness, completeness, clarity, assumptions, units, safety, and process reasoning.
The work covers material and energy balances, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, reaction engineering, separations, unit operations, process control, scale-up, process safety, operability, and plant troubleshooting.
- Assess AI responses for factual accuracy, complete reasoning, sound assumptions, correct units, and appropriate safety considerations.
- Create realistic calculations, process scenarios, and engineering reasoning tasks to challenge AI models.
- Review and refine prompts, responses, explanations, and technical engineering solutions.
- Find missing constraints, unsafe recommendations, flawed assumptions, consistency errors, and incomplete reasoning.
- Evaluate phase behavior, thermodynamic property use, balances, separations logic, process control, scale-up, and plant troubleshooting.
- Help AI explain calculations, limitations, assumptions, and professional judgment clearly.
- Support responsible technical communication, including when escalation to a licensed engineer or site expert is appropriate.
What It Pays and Takes
This is a remote, part-time contractor role with hourly pay and a flexible, project-based workload. Qualified specialists should be ready for steady review work during active project periods.
- Pay: $40 to $100 per hour.

- Location: Remote and open to candidates in Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Germany, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, the United States, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
- Language: Professional fluency in English.
- Experience: At least 4 years of professional chemical engineering experience.
- Background: Hands-on experience in process design, plant or operations engineering, process safety, scale-up, manufacturing, utilities, EHS, quality, R&D, or controls and automation interfaces.
- Education: A bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or a closely related field.
- Technical knowledge: Strong understanding of balances, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, reaction engineering, separations, unit operations, and process control.
- Working style: Comfort with engineering calculations, constraints, uncertainty, safety factors, assumptions, and defensible written reasoning.
- Preferred credentials: A master's degree, doctorate, PE, or Chartered status.
- Helpful experience: AI training, annotation, red-teaming, or evaluation of AI-generated technical content.
- Helpful tools and documents: PFDs, P&IDs, Aspen Plus, HYSYS, CHEMCAD, process datasheets, PSM documentation, HAZOP, LOPA, and SOPs.

About AI Training Work
AI training work uses human review to help artificial intelligence learn from accurate examples and useful feedback. OpenTrain is a platform where people find these projects, build a profile, and apply for work, while specialists are valued for the subject knowledge they bring to model evaluation.
In this role, your chemical engineering judgment helps improve how AI handles technical calculations, safety concerns, assumptions, and process decisions.
