The work
You will help train AI by creating realistic biology problems and research scenarios, reviewing model-generated answers, and explaining how they can improve. Your feedback should reflect current research and practical laboratory knowledge.
This is independent, asynchronous project work that can fit alongside research, studies, or another role.
- Create advanced biology problems and scenarios based on real research and laboratory work.
- Review AI-generated responses for scientific accuracy, rigor, and alignment with current research practice.
- Explain errors, strengths, and improvement opportunities in clear written feedback.
- Use practical biology research judgment to help improve AI model performance.
- Work independently on remote project tasks.
What it pays and takes
This role is suited to someone with advanced biology training and strong written communication. Research output and experience across multiple biology areas or techniques can support success.
- Pay: Up to $150 per hour.
- Hours: 20 or more hours per week, with no set daily schedule.
- Work setting: Remote and open to candidates in the United States.
- Education: Completed PhD or current PhD enrollment in a relevant biology field, with preference for candidates later in their program.
- Subject knowledge: Depth in virology, microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, epidemiology, bioinformatics, biotechnology, or toxicology.
- Communication: Strong written communication, close attention to scientific detail, and the ability to explain complex biology clearly.
- Research background: Peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, or other research output are valuable.
- Helpful technical experience: Sequencing, CRISPR, flow cytometry, microscopy, structural biology, or computational and statistical analysis in R or Python.

About AI training work
AI training is the human work behind systems that learn from examples, including writing and rating model responses and reviewing their accuracy. OpenTrain helps people find AI training projects, build a profile, and apply in minutes, while specialists use their subject knowledge to give models better feedback.
