The work
You will review AI-generated responses, prompts, and step-by-step solutions across astronomy and space science. Your feedback will help identify errors and improve how models explain scientific reasoning.
The work covers orbital mechanics, stellar and galactic astrophysics, cosmology, planetary science, space physics, and data interpretation.
- Evaluate AI responses for scientific accuracy, logical soundness, completeness, and clarity.
- Check units, assumptions, approximations, uncertainty, and limits of inference.
- Find conceptual errors, missing constraints, bad assumptions, formula mistakes, and misleading or overconfident claims.
- Challenge models with realistic scenarios, calculations, and research-style reasoning tasks.
- Review and refine prompts, model answers, and step-by-step solutions.
- Use orders of magnitude, unit consistency, limiting cases, and error propagation to validate results.
What it pays and takes
This is a remote, part-time contract role for specialists who can provide careful scientific judgment on advanced AI outputs.
- Pay: $40 to $100 per hour.
- Time: 20+ hours per week.
- Work arrangement: Remote collaboration under a contract engagement.
- Location: Open to qualified candidates in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brazil, Cambodia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the Philippines, the United States, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
- Language: Professional fluency in English.
- Experience: At least 4 years of professional experience in astronomy or a closely related space science field.
- Education: A bachelor's degree in physics, astronomy, space science, engineering, or a closely related field; a master's degree or PhD is strongly preferred.
- Required knowledge: Orbital mechanics, radiative processes, stellar and galactic physics, coordinate systems, time standards, statistics, and scientific modeling assumptions.
- Helpful experience: AI training, annotation, red-teaming, or technical content evaluation.
- Additional helpful skills: Python, NumPy, SciPy, data pipelines, catalog queries, photometry, spectroscopy, mission datasets, orbit determination, or related quantitative analysis.

About AI training work
AI training is the human work behind systems that learn from examples, including reviewing model answers and rating their quality. OpenTrain helps people find this kind of work, build a profile, and apply to projects where their experience can improve AI systems. Experienced specialists are needed when models must handle technical subjects accurately and communicate uncertainty responsibly.
