$110 Paid Study for Non-Native English Speakers

Is English your second language? Or your third, or your fourth? Then we’d love to hear you talk, and we’ll pay you $110 for one easy, in-person group conversation.

Mindrift is running a research study on how bilingual and multilingual people communicate in everyday group conversations. Think of chatting with friends about weekend plans or picking a lunch spot with coworkers.

Maybe you grew up speaking another language at home, moved to the US as an adult, or picked up English at school. Whatever your story, your voice is exactly what this study needs. Every accent is welcome.

Sessions start November 9, on weekdays, in Santa Clara / Sunnyvale.

• Join a small group of 2–4 people and a friendly, trained moderator
• Chat about easy, everyday topics, like planning a birthday party or making a decision together
• No quizzes, no right or wrong answers. Just a real conversation
• The conversation is recorded on video and audio for research purposes

• The recorded conversation itself takes about 15 minutes.
• Please plan for up to 90 minutes in total. This covers parking, check-in, a short briefing, signing the consent form, and wrap-up.
• An on-site coordinator meets you and guides you through each step.

Is this you?

• English is not your first language (bilingual, multilingual, or learned English later in life)
• You’re comfortable having a casual conversation in English
• You’re 18–64 years old
• You live in or can travel to Santa Clara Valley (South Bay), California
• You’re OK with being recorded on video and audio during the session
• You are available for one in-person weekday visit between November 2026 and March 2027
• You haven’t taken part in this study before (each person takes part once)

$110 for one visit (about 15 minutes of conversation, up to 90 minutes on site) Here’s how it works:

• Payouts are sent on Mindrift’s twice-monthly schedule
• Please note that travel and parking costs are not covered

Participation is voluntary and covered by a signed consent form that explains exactly what's involved, including how recordings are used and stored. You can ask questions at any point and withdraw from the study at any time.
